HWRF Installation Guide

There are three ways to obtain the HWRF: from the public DTC website, from the public repositories, or from the yearly EMC-NCO code handover. Most of this guide focuses on the middle option: how to install from the public repository, the option used by the HWRF team and most of our NOAA collaborators.

Installation from the Public Repository

Most of this guide explains how to compile, install and run the HWRF system from the public repository:

If you are downloading from the DTC Subversion server, then that is the page for you.

Public HWRF Release Tarballs

If you download HWRF tarballs off of the DTC website, this guide will not help you. The installation process is different. See the DTC webpage here:

http://www.dtcenter.org/HurrWRF/users/docs/

and search for the version of HWRF that you are using under "HWRF Documents."

NCO SPA Team

If you are a member of the NCEP Central Operations (NCO) Senior Programming Analyst (SPA) Team, please see detailed guide we have prepared for the code handoff. The installation procedures are completely different due to the use of ecFlow, and a different build system mandated by NCO technical requirements.
