COMMENTS: This is the first time that no west coast verification region is identified for a flight. For this reason, and also because the time window is relatively long (72 hours) we consider this mission as experimental (despite the fact that it was requested by HPC). COORDINATES OF DROPSONDES: At each turning point, plus, on average, one every 20 mins between turning points. If a sonde fails, please try to replace it immediately. The most sensitive area is north of 36N on all legs; the frequency of sondes there could be increased to 15 mins (and decreased elsewhere, if necessary). Mel Shapiro will insert additional dropsondes that will not be transmitted in real time.

COMMENTS: If the flight is too long, move the first turning point south along 160W. This is a combined flight with SCATCAT.  Flight hours for one additional flight may become available in which case we may request a last flight centered around 99021200, recovering on the west coast.
